Dimensions: H. 29 cm (11 3/8 in), 14th Century Condition & Provenance: Condition: Fully intact, no cracks or restoration. Rim, body and base complete. Lustrous glaze with powerful deep‑toned cobalt and natural iron speckling. Unglazed base shows authentic burial‑related patina and wear; interior bears age‑old residual deposits, overall excellent condition. Provenance: Private collection, Vienna, Austria. Acquired 1961, consigned as family estate property for auction in 2026. Description: A monumental classic Yuan‑dynasty blue‑and‑white jar. Straight short neck, broad swelling shoulders, rounded belly tapering toward unglazed sandy base. Decorated in horizontal registers: rim with turbulent ocean‑wave motif; neck encircled by scrolling lotus flowers; main body dominated by a mighty dragon gliding through billowing clouds with finely rendered scales and powerful claws. Lower register features stylized lotus‑petal panels enclosing cloud emblems. Executed in bold, unrestrained brushwork with dense, well‑balanced composition, characteristic of high‑grade Jingdezhen Yuan porcelain. Interior shows ancient accumulated soiling; coarse dry sandy base is typical of 14th‑century manufacture. Surviving Yuan dragon jars of this quality are scarce, representing one of the most coveted categories of Yuan blue‑and‑white collecting.
