Description:This is a classic Yongle‑era blue‑and‑white gourd‑form ewer. The vessel is modelled in double‑gourd shape with small mouth, fitted with original lotus‑leaf‑form lid with pearl knob. It features straight spout and ruyi‑shaped curved handle, elegant and well‑proportioned. The whole surface is painted in underglaze‑blue with scrolling melon‑and‑fruit motifs, twisting vines interweave among plump fruits and foliage with well‑balanced composition. Cobalt pigment shows distinct light‑dark gradation with characteristic iron speckles from imported “Suma Li Qing” cobalt of Yongle period. The glaze is lustrous with fine natural crackle. Interior covered with white glaze. Flat base reveals fine‑grained body clay with natural age‑related abrasion. Gourd symbolizes “blessing and fortune”. Complete surviving examples of this gourd‑shaped ewer retaining original lid are quite scarce.
