Private Collection, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Acquired from Europe in 1938, passed down within family, no prior auction record. Sand‑textured base, no mark. Description:This is a fine imperial‑ware chicken‑heart bowl of the Yongle reign. It has deep rounded profile with pronounced raised central base, the iconic “chicken‑heart” shape typical for Yongle‑Xuande porcelain. The exterior rim is decorated with a continuous key‑fret border; main exterior surface is covered with radiating chrysanthemum‑petal motifs rendered in bold brushwork. Inside the bowl, the rim is adorned with wave‑rock border. Within double‑circle medallion at centre is a pomegranate sprig, while inner wall is fully painted with scrolling seasonal flowers with freely twisting stems and foliage. Imported cobalt‑blue pigment yields deep vibrant tone with characteristic iron‑rust speckles and silvery sheen, hallmark of early‑Ming blue‑and‑white. Foot‑ring is neatly trimmed. The fine‑sand base has solid white body with natural wear from age. Yongle chicken‑heart bowls are rare. Complete and well‑preserved, this represents an important example of early‑Ming imperial blue‑and‑white porcelain.
