拍品描述

CHINESE 'ZHONG WAI TONG BAO' ONE TAEL SILVER COIN L. 4 cm. Weight 20 grams. A Chinese 'Zhong Wai Tong Bao' one tael silver coin, measuring 4 cm in diameter and weighing 20 grams. Struck in fine silver, this circular coin features crisp relief Chinese characters arranged in a traditional layout: the outer ring bears the inscription "中外通寶" (Zhong Wai Tong Bao, meaning 'Currency for China and Foreign Trade'), while the central circle reads "關平銀壹兩" (Guan Ping Yin Yi Liang, denoting 'Guan Ping standard, one tael of silver'). The coin is bordered by a delicate beaded rim, with sharp detailing and a soft, aged patina that reflects its historical authenticity. Reflecting late Qing dynasty monetary reform, this coin embodies the transition from traditional sycee to modern machine-struck currency, serving as a tangible artifact of China’s early modern economic history.
