CHINESE BRONZE DRAGON AND SHOU CENSER L. 28 cm. W. 18.5 cm. H. 19 cm. Weight 3210 grams. A Chinese bronze dragon and shou character censer, measuring 28 cm in length, 18.5 cm in width, 19 cm in height, and weighing 3210 grams. This lobed, quadripodal censer is elaborately decorated with deep relief carvings: the openwork lid features coiling dragons chasing a flaming pearl amidst swirling clouds, while the body is adorned with bats surrounding a central shou (longevity) character. Two lion-dragon finials serve as handles, and the legs are carved with beast-head motifs. The aged patina and intricate detailing reflect the masterful craftsmanship of the Qing dynasty, embodying the symbolic pursuit of longevity and imperial authority in Chinese ritual art.
