He advocated "using Yuan brushwork to compose Song landscapes, infused with Tang spirit", synthesising ancient masters’ achievements. This light crimson landscape depicts monasteries and pavilions nestled among streams and hills, with cascading waterfalls and pine trees, inscribed "Wuchen second month, Shigu Wang Hui". The temple-in-landscape motif dates to the Six Dynasties; Wang Wei of the Tang integrated Chan Buddhist sensibility into landscape painting.
