拍品描述

A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE CARVING OF A CRANE WITH LINGZHI, 17TH-18TH CENTURY China. Crisply carved, the bird depicted in a recumbent pose with its legs tucked beneath the body, which extends into a feathered tail, while the finely detailed wings are neatly folded against the sides. The head is raised on a slender neck and turned sharply backwards, the long beak resting against the back as it grasps a flowering sprig of lingzhi. The finely polished, translucent stone is of a pale yellowish celadon tone with light brown shading and mottling, together with cloudy inclusions. Dimensions: Length 7.3 cm (excl. stand), 7.7 cm (incl. stand) With a fitted wood stand. (2) Cranes and lingzhi are enduring symbols of longevity and transcendence in Chinese mythology and traditional visual culture. Cranes, admired for their grace and reputedly long lifespan, were believed to serve as the celestial mounts of Daoist immortals, embodying wisdom, purity, and the ascent to the heavenly realm. Lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum), a rare medicinal fungus revered since antiquity, was associated with vitality, spiritual cultivation, and the quest for immortality in Daoist tradition. Frequently depicted alongside other auspicious motifs such as pine trees and peaches of immortality, cranes and lingzhi together convey wishes for long life, good health, and enduring harmony between the human and the divine.
