拍品描述
A WHITE JADE ‘DEER, BAT, PEACH AND LINGZHI’ GROUP, 18TH CENTURY China. Dexterously carved, the stag is shown recumbent with its legs neatly tucked beneath the body, terminating in a short tail resting against the haunches. The sensitively modeled head is slightly raised, distinguished by gentle eyes, pointed ears swept back beneath a prominent pair of antlers, and a pronounced muzzle grasping a peach spray bearing a lingzhi fungus, while a small bat alights at its tip. The finely polished, translucent stone is of a white tone with few dark specks. Dimensions: Length 6.5 cm With a silk padded storage box. (2) The deer was believed to be the only animal capable of finding the sacred lingzhi fungus of immortality and is therefore closely associated with longevity. Its name, lu, is a homophone for an official’s emolument, while the bat (fu) signifies blessings; together, they form the rebus fulu shuangquan, ‘may blessings and emolument both be complete.’ The peach and lingzhi further enrich the composition with wishes for immortality and long life.
