A VERY LARGE (735 x 420 CM) PEKING PALACE CARPET, LATE 19TH CENTURY Northern China. Finely woven in wool with a soft, high pile, in golden-ochre, shades of blue, and cream, the rectangular reserve centered by a medallion featuring a four-clawed dragon framed by ruyi, enclosed by sprays of flowers and butterflies, with a pair of floral emblems to the upper and lower sections, the corners decorated with further floral scrollwork, all within a key-fret band bordered by scrolling lotus vines.
