‘AFTER THE RAIN: A MAJESTIC MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE’, BY ZHU ZHEN, 19TH CENTURY China. Ink on silk. Finely painted depicting an expansive mountainous landscape with towering, craggy peaks rising through drifting mist. The richly wooded valley is dotted with pavilions, temples, rustic dwellings, and separated by a stream. The varied textural strokes and layered washes create a strong sense of depth while the monumental peaks lend the composition a serene grandeur.
