† A BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, THAILAND, 13TH-15TH CENTURY Finely cast, the Buddha seated in dhyanasana upon a broad lobed pedestal raised on stylized feet and separated by foliate pendent elements, the right hand lowered in bhumisparsha mudra and the left resting in the lap in dhyana mudra. The figure is clad in a diaphanous monastic robe draped over the left shoulder, leaving the right shoulder bare, the narrow hem falling vertically across the torso. The sensitively modeled face bears a serene meditative expression, with downcast almond-shaped eyes beneath gently arched brows, a broad nose, and full lips forming a subtle smile, flanked by elongated earlobes. The hair is arranged in rows of tight snail-shell curls surmounted by a tiered ushnisha culminating in a lotus-bud finial, all backed by a beaded headband.
