A BRONZE TRIAD OF VISHNU, SRIDEVI AND BHUDEVI, SOUTH INDIA, KARNATAKA, 17TH-18TH CENTURY Separately cast, the central four-armed Vishnu standing erect upon a lotus pedestal, holding the chakra and shankha in his upper hands, while the principal hands are held before the body in a loose fist and varada mudra. He is richly adorned with necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and a jeweled girdle securing a long dhoti, the serene face surmounted by a tall conical crown. A five-headed naga rises protectively above him, its spreading hoods framing the deity. Vishnu is flanked by his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, each individually cast and standing in mirrored poses upon a flat plinth, one hand holding a lotus bud while the other hangs gracefully alongside the body. The group is enclosed within an elaborate openwork torana issuing flame-like motifs, the crest centered by a fierce kirtimukha mask. The three figures are raised on a stepped rectangular pedestal enriched with geometric and lotus ornament. Cast in five separate pieces. (5) Dimensions: Height 17 cm Vishnu is identified by his attributes, discuss/wheel (Chakra) and the conch/Shell (Shankha). Sri Devi, on Vishnu’s right, is identified by the breast band and lotus in her left hand. Bhu Devi is identified by the Lilly in her right hand.
