拍品描述
A LARGE BASTAR BRONZE FIGURE OF A MALE DEITY, CHHATTISGARH, 1900-1950 Finely cast, the figure standing rigidly frontal upon a tall cylindrical pedestal finished with rope-twist borders, the tall body rendered with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long tapering legs. Both arms are bent sharply at the elbows and held before the torso clutching a sickle and crop. The bare upper body is articulated with prominent nipples and a circular navel, while the waist is encircled by multiple finely incised bands securing a long, narrow loincloth descending between the legs to the pedestal. The stylized face with large almond-shaped eyes, a long straight nose, and broad pursed lips lending the figure an austere, almost mask-like expression, flanked by s-spiral form ears with beaded earrings, while the closely cropped hair is indicated by a finely striated band across the crown. Four notches to the side of the body and near the crown. Dimensions: Height 54 cm Literature comparison: Compare a closely related bronze figure, Bastar, Chhattisgarh, dated 1900-1950, 39 cm high, in the Museum Rietberg, Zürich, inventory number 2011.101
