拍品描述
A BRONZE MUKHALINGA OF SHIVA, ANGKOR PERIOD, 12TH-13TH CENTURY Khmer Empire. Finely cast, the lingam rising from a square stepped yoni base with a projecting spout, the partially faceted shaft modeled to one side with the face of Shiva. The deity is rendered with almond-shaped eyes beneath arched brows, a broad nose, full lips, elongated earlobes, and a topknot. The strongly modeled features emerge directly from the otherwise naturally cast aniconic shaft, uniting the abstract lingam with the anthropomorphic image of the god. The compact yoni is formed with sharply defined stepped moldings and a projecting drainage channel for ritual libations.
