拍品描述

Five Chinese Embroidered Silk Panels, Late 19th-20th Century 晚清-民國 綉片一組五幅 Each of rectangular form; comprising a blue-ground example worked in multicolored threads to depict a large central floral medallion surrounded by floral sprigs and roundels enclosing butterflies and melons; and four red-ground examples respectively worked to depict the Star God of Longevity with a deer, Daoist immortals on a terrace, playful boys in various pursuits in a garden, and cranes perched on pine trees amidst blossoming peonies. Height of the ‘Shoulao’ panel 58 x Width 42 in., 147.3 x 106.7 cm. Property from the Collection of George C.T. Wan, New York, thence by descent. This lot is located in Philadelphia. George Chien-Tze ("C.T.") Wan was born in Jiangxi province, China. He became interested in Chinese porcelain when, in Shanghai, Mr. Wan worked as a representative for importers of Chinese porcelain to the United States. Through this work, he obtained sponsorship to immigrate to the United States in 1949. Within a year, C.T. Wan & Co., dealer in Chinese art and antiques, was inaugurated in New York City at 116 East 28th St. Thus began a dedication and passion for Asian art and collecting that was to fulfill Mr. Wan's excellent life until his passing in 2019. The store moved twice, first a few blocks away to 235 Fifth Avenue in the 1960's and then across the avenue in the 1980's to 242 Fifth Avenue. In the 2000’s, surrounded by his collection, Mr. Wan would smile and reflect on what great satisfaction and pride his life's work had brought to him. 品相细图: https://asian.smugmug.com/Sale-6573 图录中未说明品相的拍品并不等没有磨损、瑕疵或其他问题,请买家于拍前自行检查。落槌无悔,请对您的竞拍行为负责。其他问题請邮件asian@freemansauction.com。
