3 Large Petrified Wood Slabs | Black Indonesian & Red Madagascar Fossil Wood

拍品描述

Ca. 5–252 million years old. Africa & Asia, Madagascar & Indonesia, Triassic to Miocene periods, ca. 252 to 5 million years ago. A group of three large petrified wood slabs, each cut and polished to reveal striking internal structure. Two examples, likely from Indonesia, display dense dark interiors with contrasting pale mineral veining and dramatic tonal variation. The third, likely from Madagascar, features warm brown and reddish hues with swirling natural patterning. All retain organic outer contours, ranging from rounded to irregular forms, preserving the original shape of the wood. Petrified wood forms through mineral replacement, as silica-rich water permeates buried wood and gradually transforms it into stone while maintaining structural detail. These specimens show characteristic grain and internal patterning, offering a vivid record of ancient forests.
