拍品描述
Attributed to Ambrosius Benson (circa 1495-1550) Madonna and Child Oil on canvas laid to canvas Unsigned; inscribed in ink in another hand "Vierge su XVI siecle - Ambrosius Benson" on the frame's backing paper 37 3/4 x 23 in. Private collection, acquired from the above Blacklight: Different layers of restoration. The most recent consists of a few hairline touch-ups covering craquelure near the center of the right side, as well as a pinhead-sized dot in the lower right. Another layer seems to consist of a vertical line of 1/4 x 1/8 in (and smaller) spots, dots, and dashes of touch-up in the lower right quadrant. There are a number of older lines, dots, dashes, and spots of touch-up in both of the figures, including a 2 x 1/2 inch spot near the hairline of the child, and also scattered throughout the painting. A thick, discolored varnish layer may obscure further touch-ups. Frame: 42 x 27 1/4 x 2 in. Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
