拍品描述
An Italian Rococo lacca povera commode 18th century The faux marble top above a conforming case fitted with two drawers, decorated with figural tableaus and butterflies Height 34 1/4 in., width 45 in., depth 21 1/2 in. Other Notes: Lacca povera is a decorative technique in which printed or painted paper cut-outs are applied to a prepared surface and subsequently coated with multiple layers of varnish, creating the illusion of the costly lacquer decoration associated with East Asian and European lacquerware. The technique originated in Venice in the late 17th century and gained considerable popularity during the first quarter of the 18th century. From Italy, the practice spread throughout Europe, where it remained fashionable as a comparatively economical means of achieving the richly ornamented appearance of lacquer during the 18th century. Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
