拍品描述
A PAIR OF RARE CHINESE CLOISONNE-ENAMEL PARROTS, QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG/JIAQING PERIOD, 18TH/19TH CENTURY Each parrot finely cast with head slightly turned to the side, the light green body and white breast with gilt cloisons defining the plumage, the wings and tail colourfully enamelled with white, red, yellow, dark green, light purple and dark purple with the beak and claw in gilt. With a fitted box. Though wild parrots and parakeets were native to certain parts of China, they gained popularity in the Tang dynasty and there are records of gifts of exotic parrots from Indonesia and Indochina. Because of their colourful plumage, their intelligence, and their ability to 'speak', parrots, parakeets and lories have long been admired in China. The parrot is also a symbol of filial piety, featuring in various Buddhist texts, including Guanyin and the Filial Parrot (also known as 'The Precious Scroll of the Parrot' Yingge Baozhuan). A similar parrot moulded on a stand, see Christie's London, 7/11/2017, lot 111. 23.5cm wide; 15.5cm high PROVENANCE: Roger Keverne, London. Mossgreen Melbourne, 16/6/2015, lot 10.
