拍品描述

A CHINESE GILT-BRONZE AND ENAMEL BUDDHIST SHRINE ENSHRINING A ZANABAZAR-STYLE FIGURE, QING DYNASTY (1644 - 1911) This finely crafted imperial gilt-bronze shrine is conceived in the form of a traditional Chinese pavilion with double-eaved roofs, its soaring upturned eaves imparting an air of dignity and elegance. The exterior is richly gilded throughout and meticulously chased with scrolling cloud and floral motifs that flow seamlessly across its surfaces. The base and eaves are further embellished with enamel decoration, the vibrant colours providing a striking contrast to the lustrous gilding. Executed with exceptional precision and refinement, the shrine exemplifies the exacting standards and aesthetic sophistication of Qing imperial workmanship. Enshrined within is a figure rendered in the Zanabazar style, one of the most celebrated traditions of Mongolian Buddhist sculpture. Seated in dhyanasana, the deity displays a serene and graceful bearing, with finely modelled features, gently rounded contours, and elegantly proportioned limbs. The delicately rendered ornaments and refined modelling reflect the harmonious fusion of Tibetan and Mongolian artistic influences, imbued with a sense of spiritual tranquility and devotion. The pavilion-form shrine itself functions as a miniature temple, providing a sacred architectural setting for the image it houses. Protected by the finest court craftsmanship on the exterior and animated by the solemn presence of the sacred figure within, the ensemble embodies the rich multicultural religious aesthetics of the Qing court. Combining devotional significance, artistic excellence, and architectural ingenuity, it represents a rare and distinguished example of a shrine intended for personal worship and contemplation. 清 鎏金銅加彩佛龕及佛坐像 38.5cm high (Stupa); 10cm high (Buddha) PROVENANCE: Acquired from a British private collector in the 1990s.
