Paul Jones Commodore Oil on canvas board h. 23.75 x w. 19.75 in., board The composition depicts a central figure in a blue naval uniform within an oval frame inscribed with the title, surrounded by a striped flag, telescope, and celestial figures. It is housed in an ornate gilt and green-washed wood frame. h. 29.25 x w. 25.5 in. (frame) Pitigliani was a female artist and illustrator who was a student of Roberto Melli (1885-1958) and transplant to the USA. Her mastery of color and gradients translated into a pseudorealistic view that captured the light, character, and grit of New York City in the 1970s &1980's. Over her career she was commissioned to create posters and promotional materials for NYC, Boston, Venice, and Rome, among others. Inventory Code: 1CA-69
