Longquan Celadon Conjoined Twin Vase with Applied Dragon and Phoenix Decoration This rare vessel is formed by two conjoined cylindrical tubes with a small bridge handle connecting the two mouths. It is fully covered with typical Longquan plum-green celadon glaze. The body is moulded with repeating diaper pattern. One side features a vigorously modelled applied dragon with flame and pearl; the opposite side bears an outstretched phoenix with elegant tail feathers. The foot rim reveals the biscuit with reddish firing discoloration. Symbolism: Known as a nuptial hejin wedding vessel. Dragon and phoenix represent auspicious matrimony, harmony and prosperity. The twin-body shape symbolizes the union of husband and wife. This type of Longquan twin vase is a scarce ceremonial artifact.
