英文名称：Lin Fengmian Red Cockscomb Flower and Fruit 英文描述：This still life is a representative work of Lin Fengmian, embodying his artistic ideal of integrating Chinese and Western art. On one side blooms fiery red cockscomb, with vivid crimson flower heads contrasted against emerald green foliage. Lines are simplified and abstracted, departing from the meticulous rendering of traditional flower-and-bird painting. On the other side lies a fruit bowl filled with plump fruits in bright colour blocks. Set against a dark tabletop, the composition adopts the block structure and colour logic of Western modern still life, while retaining the ethereal charm of Chinese ink wash. Bold, unrestrained brushwork and daring colour palette prioritise emotional expression over literal realism. Signed “Lin Fengmian” at lower right, sealed. Cockscomb symbolizes good fortune and vitality. The floral-and-fruit still life is one of Lin’s signature motifs. It blends modern aesthetics with oriental poetry, an iconic masterpiece of 20th-century modern Chinese ink art.
