This horizontal scroll depicts an old pine on a precipice with a red-crowned crane standing alone. On the left, splash color technique creates rich blue-green tones. The twisted ancient pine features firm pine needles. Cliff rocks are rendered with light ink texture to show rugged texture. The red-crowned crane with white plumage, black tail and bright red crown stands calmly on the cliff. The inscription expresses the quiet and secluded mood. Cranes symbolize longevity and noble virtue in Chinese painting. Combining splash-color and traditional landscape-and-flower-and-bird brushwork, the work boasts rich color layers and misty ethereal atmosphere. It blends contemporary expressiveness with literati aesthetic, worthy of collection and display.
