The giant twisting trunk and aerial roots are rendered in dense black ink. The foreground branches are covered with striking vermilion autumn leaves. Beneath the tree lies a water village: a winding river filled with swimming geese, farm houses, palm trees, small figures working along the bank and boats moored at the shore. The composition is grand and full, with solid ink foundation and bright, vivid colours. It captures the vitality and tranquility of Lingnan countryside. A student of Li Keran, Zhang Bu specialised in southern landscapes. This work blends realistic depiction with decorative aesthetic, rich in layers and vivid atmosphere, a representative example of his Lingnan landscape paintings. 款式】镜心，纸本设色 【钤印】画面右上角两方朱文印章 【款识】右上角长篇题款：榕厦。丙午小春，写于南海之滨，榕荫图，应杜强同志属并题。 【来源】旧藏 【出版】无出版记录 **中文描述** 本品为纸本设色山水镜心，绘南国榕树水乡风光，题名为《榕厦》。画面主体为参天古榕，主干虬曲苍劲，气根纵横盘绕，浓墨写出巨大树冠，前景枝桠缀满浓烈朱红秋叶，色彩热烈夺目。树下水乡平畴，小河蜿蜒，水面群鹅游弋；岸边点缀农家小屋、棕榈，人物三两，或俯身劳作，或倚舟而立，渔船静泊于水岸。画面构图饱满宏大，墨骨坚实，设色浓烈明艳，将岭南乡野的生机与恬静融为一体。张步师承李可染，擅绘南国风光，此作融合写实与装饰性，层次丰富，意境鲜活，是其岭南山水代表性精品。
