It depicts the famous story of Bodhidharma crossing the river on a single reed. Bodhidharma wears ochre-red monk robe, his face vividly rendered with dry ink for beard and hair, conveying solemn and serene expression. A faint light halo is drawn behind his head to embody his sacred aura. He carries a monk’s staff with a hanging bag, standing on one reed above simple ink-rendered ripples. Executed in freehand figure style, the brushwork is concise and unrestrained with elegant colour palette.
