Format: Mounted painting, ink and colour on paper Seals: Three red artist seals on the work Publication: record of publication Description This mounted flower-and-bird painting by Fang Chuxiong depicts autumn branches, persimmons and a mother duck with ducklings. The sturdy twigs at the top are painted in freehand brushwork, adorned with orange persimmons and two vivid red leaves, fully capturing the charm of autumn. The mother duck and two ducklings below are rendered in a combined fine-and-freehand style. Feathers are layered with delicate washes, lifelike in texture, showing gentle and tranquil expressions. The tender bond between mother and young is touching. Sparse reeds are lightly sketched with ample blank space to set off the main subjects. The painting features soft and elegant colours, simple and open composition. It balances fine detail and freehand vitality, brimming with serene natural charm, a representative work of Fang Chuxiong’s flower-and-bird paintings.
