Format: Mounted painting, colour and ink on paper, painted in 1989, 68.5×69.5cm, published in *Wu Guanzhong Exhibition Catalogue*, Changliu Art Museum, Taiwan Seals: Two red artist seals Publication: *Wu Guanzhong Exhibition Catalogue*, Changliu Art Museum, Taiwan Description This fine garden-themed work was painted by Wu Guanzhong in 1989 and included in the exhibition catalogue published by Changliu Art Museum, Taiwan. Blending Chinese ink tradition and modern western aesthetics, it depicts a Jiangnan garden scene. Huge scholar’s rocks are rendered with bold splash ink, interwoven with twisting vines dotted in yellow and green washes. A pavilion is outlined with concise ink lines, with small figures viewing the scenery inside. Pale grey wash forms the pond, where red fish swim amid ripples, bringing vitality to the tranquil scene. The composition is constructed with points, lines and planes, with fresh and bright colours. It captures the poetic leisure of classical Chinese gardens, a representative garden work by Wu Guanzhong, well-documented in exhibition publication.
