Inside the shell, an auspicious beast is rendered in high relief with elaborate facial details, curled mane and long trunk, presenting an antique and elegant demeanour. A seal-script mark is engraved on the reverse. The jade possesses fine, oily texture with pleasing whiteness and mild lustre. The naturally-shaped carving demonstrates mature craftsmanship. In traditional culture, the conch symbolises peace and the spreading of dharma; the mythical beast wards off evil and attracts blessings.
