This is an antique hairpin (ji) carved from Hetian celadon jade, dating to the Qing Dynasty, an ornamental hair accessory for ancient noble ladies. The pin body is slender and tapers to a fine point for piercing into coiled hair. The terminal head is elaborately decorated with an openwork phoenix motif. The phoenix features a hooked beak and curled crest; its tail merges gracefully with scrolling cloud patterns. Drawing aesthetic inspiration from Warring States and Han dynasty phoenix jade ornaments, the flowing, sinuous lines embody the classic Qing archaistic style. The jade has a soft, muted bluish-green tone with gentle patina and fine polishing. The openwork carving creates elegant negative space, integrating the phoenix form seamlessly with the shaft. The piece balances practical hair-fastening function and artistic jade-carving beauty.
