ivory 4 3/8 x 1 3/4 x 0 7/8 in, 11.2 x 4.3 x 2.4 cm A tall netsuke carved in the form of the Chinese historical figure Guan Yu (Kan-u), depicted with a stern expression, holding his long beard in one hand and his characteristic polearm in the other.
