folding fan 12 3/8 x 20 1/2 in, 31.5 x 52 cm Ink and colour on paper, folding fan with bamboo and silk brocade fan guards. Signed Pu Jin with a dedication to Wanyan Hengyong (1881-1965) on each side, dated bingyin (1921). With two artist’s seals. Afonso Chen (1919-2009) was a well-loved and respected member of Toronto's Chinese Canadian community. Born in Macao and educated in the Portuguese school system, he worked as a journalist during World War II, where he met many renowned artists from Mainland China and Hong Kong who had sought refuge there. In 1954, Afonso became the first Chinese individual to practice law as a solicitor in Macao. After immigrating to Toronto, Canada, with his family in 1968, he joined an investment firm as a stockbroker, all the while continuing his avid collection of Chinese paintings. Affectionately known as “Uncle Al,” he made significant contributions to the community. He co-founded the Macao Club (Toronto), served with the Ontario Chinese Artist Association, and exhibited works from his extensive collection at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto. Afonso's legacy is one of building cultural bridges - supporting and promoting Chinese art through his outstanding painting collection, and fostering cross-cultural understanding between Chinese and Canadian communities. 设色纸本 成扇 书法释文：于是洛灵感焉，徙倚彷徨。神光离合，乍阴乍阳。竦轻以鹤立，若将飞未翔。践椒涂之郁烈，步蘅薄而流芳。超长吟以永慕兮，声哀厉而弥长。尔乃众灵杂沓，命俦啸侣。或戏清流，或翔神渚。 钦印：雪斋居士、溥伒印 注：双梅花簃主人应为清末民初北京重要书画鉴藏家完颜衡永（1881 - 1965）。完颜字湘南，号亮生、酒仙，为是清末重臣完颜崇厚第三子，鉴藏家完顏景贤叔父。1899年入国子监，民国后改姓王，1922年担任清查鉴定故宫字画事务，著有《双梅花簃诗稿》。 陈毅生 (Afonso Chen, 1919 - 2009) 生于澳门，受教于葡文学校，二战期间任新闻记者，结识诸多寓居澳门的书画名家。1954年，陈氏成为首位在澳门取得律师资格并执业的华人律师。1968年携家人移居多伦多，入职投资公司，并延续对中国书画的热忱收藏。陈氏在多伦多华人社区德望素著，热心公益，贡献良多。与同侨共创多伦多澳门会，也曾服务于安省中国美术会，并于安大略皇家博物馆（ROM）、大多伦多中华文化中心等处相继展出其以成扇、扇面、扇骨为主的私人珍藏。其一生遗泽在于架构中加文化交流之桥梁，以自身的收藏阐扬传统书画艺术。 PROVENANCE Afonso Chen (1919-2009) Family Collection, Toronto
