folding fan 12 7/8 x 22 in, 33 x 56 cm The first ink and colour on paper, signed and sealed Tang Di (1878 - 1948)and Zhao Shijun (?- 1927), dated 1924. The second ink on paper, landscape and calligraphy, signed and sealed Zhu Lie (1891 - 1973) and Zhu Longzhan (1914 - 1996), dated 1940. Please note: the dimensions listed are for the larger fan. Afonso Chen (1919-2009) was a well-loved and respected member of Toronto's Chinese Canadian community. Born in Macao and educated in the Portuguese school system, he worked as a journalist during World War II, where he met many renowned artists from Mainland China and Hong Kong who had sought refuge there. In 1954, Afonso became the first Chinese individual to practice law as a solicitor in Macao. After immigrating to Toronto, Canada, with his family in 1968, he joined an investment firm as a stockbroker, all the while continuing his avid collection of Chinese paintings. Affectionately known as “Uncle Al,” he made significant contributions to the community. He co-founded the Macao Club (Toronto), served with the Ontario Chinese Artist Association, and exhibited works from his extensive collection at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto. Afonso's legacy is one of building cultural bridges - supporting and promoting Chinese art through his outstanding painting collection, and fostering cross-cultural understanding between Chinese and Canadian communities. （一）汤涤 (1878-1948) / 赵世骏 ( ? -1927） 设色 / 水墨纸本 成扇 钦印：汤定之 书法款识：（释文不录）随盦先生正，山木赵世骏。 钦印：声伯 33 x 56 cm （二）朱烈 (1891-1973) / 朱龙湛 (1914-1996) 水墨纸本 成扇 钦印：朱烈 书法款识：（释文不录）余自汉皋归来，蛰居孤岛，倏经三载。今满城风雨，又近重阳，登高远眺，乡思万斛，萦诸五内，莼鲈之思，禾黍之痛，如秋潮起伏，不能自已。率赋写怀，不自惭其词之陋也。适锡孙姻世丈出扇嘱书，即录呈教正。庚辰（1940）秋，敬圃朱福康。 钦印：容膝轩、福康、敬圃 31.7 x 50 cm 注：朱梦华，又名朱烈，江苏无锡人，曾任光华大学附中教师。善山水。子朱龙湛，字复康、敬圃。其父子二人同为民国至近代上海书画家，家中藏书甚丰。 陈毅生 (Afonso Chen, 1919 - 2009) 生于澳门，受教于葡文学校，二战期间任新闻记者，结识诸多寓居澳门的书画名家。1954年，陈氏成为首位在澳门取得律师资格并执业的华人律师。1968年携家人移居多伦多，入职投资公司，并延续对中国书画的热忱收藏。陈氏在多伦多华人社区德望素著，热心公益，贡献良多。与同侨共创多伦多澳门会，也曾服务于安省中国美术会，并于安大略皇家博物馆（ROM）、大多伦多中华文化中心等处相继展出其以成扇、扇面、扇骨为主的私人珍藏。其一生遗泽在于架构中加文化交流之桥梁，以自身的收藏阐扬传统书画艺术。 PROVENANCE Afonso Chen (1919-2009) Family Collection, Toronto
