拍品描述
A PAIR OF SMALL CHINESE CELADON SQUARE 'DEER' DISHES, QING DYNASTY (1644 - 1911) Each dish is moulded to the interior with a square panel enclosing a deer amidst ruyi-shaped clouds, the flaring sides decorated with cartouches containing individual characters that together form the auspicious rebus Tian Fu Zhi Mei. The vessels are covered overall with an even celadon glaze. The deer motif carries auspicious connotations, as the Chinese word for deer (lu) is a homophone of lu (祿), signifying official emolument, prosperity and wealth. For a very similar pair, see Shang Shan Tang: Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Bronze and Ceramics 26 Items, pp. 70-71, no. 14. each 7.5 x 7.5cm
