Robert Kleiner,《Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman》, 188 The auspicious imagery of monkeys and peaches conveys a wish for longevity. Compare a closely related spinach-green jade 'monkey and peach' group from the Avery Brundage collection, illustrated in Terese Tse Bartholomew, Hidden Meanings in Chinese Art, Hong Kong, 2006, p. 198, pl. 7.40.1. See also a smaller white jade group from the Hartman collection, sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 28th November 2006, lot 1421, sharing closely comparable facial features to the present monkeys; and a 17th century white jade carving in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, illustrated in Jessica Rawson, Chinese Jade Throughout the Ages, Victoria and Albert Museum, Transactions of the Oriental Ceramic Society, vol. 40, 1973-75, p. 123, no. 402.
