拍品描述

A Chinese blue and white 'lotus scrolls and bajixiang' hu vase, Qianlong mark, 19th C. H 48 cm The 'bajixiang' (eight auspicious symbols), derived from Tibetan and Indian Buddhist tradition, form a richly layered visual language expressing blessings, protection, and spiritual attainment. The set, comprising the parasol (gai), pair of fish (shuangyu), conch shell (luo), endless knot (pan chang), lotus (lian), victory banner (shengqi), treasure vase (bao ping), and Dharma wheel (falun), collectively conveys ideals of sovereignty, liberation, harmony, and the perpetuation of Buddhist teaching. Each emblem carries specific connotations: the parasol offers protection from worldly suffering; the fish symbolise freedom and abundance; the conch proclaims the spread of the Dharma; the endless knot evokes eternity and the interdependence of all things; the lotus signifies purity arising from the mud; the banner celebrates triumph over ignorance; the vase represents inexhaustible wealth; and the wheel embodies the Buddha's teaching in motion.
