A Chinese polychrome dish with palmette-shaped floral medallions surrounding a chrysanthemum, the exterior with a café-au-lait ground, Kangxi Dia.: 22,5 cm Ref.: - The design is based on a 16th C. Iznik design. For a similar example in the Wallace Collection where this motif is used in the border, see: William Robinson, 'And a Peacock in a Saz Tree', Apollo, September 1989, vol. 130, no. 331, pp. 166ff., and a penbox in the Louvre Museum, Paris (Esin Atil, The Age of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent, exhibition catalogue, Washington D.C., 1987, p. 268, pl. 193). The same motif is used as the major feature of tiles, again enclosing a blue palmette such as the group in the Victoria and Albert Museum, inv. no. C2005-1910. For similar motifs, see also: Regina Krahl & John Ayers, 'Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum', vol. 111, p. 980 , pl. 2059-2082.
