G. Thuerelinckx (19th/20th C.): An exceptional carved and polychrome decorated wooden flower vase in a display case, Leuven, ca. 1900

拍品描述

H 72,5 cm (the vase) 81,5 x 41 cm (the display case) The exact identity of the artist who created this vase is unknown, but the 'Tuerlinckx' or 'Thuerelinckx' family were woodcarvers, woodturners and instrument makers active in the Mechelen region of the Netherlands. The most prominent members of the family were Jean (1753-1827) and his son Corneille (1783-1855). The Gme most probably referring to Guillaume/Willem. This exceptional 'wunderkammer' object is sold with a bound volume containing some of the plates from L.E. Bergeron's 'Le Manuel du Tourneur', an instruction manual written for woodturners in 1816. See plate 42 for a turned wooden vase similar to this one.
