英文品名：HONG YI, SEVEN-CHARACTER CALLIGRAPHY COUPLET, INK ON PAPER, HANGING SCROLL 尺寸：L:132cm;W:31cm (x2) 紙本楷書對聯。兩行大字，內容為七言聯句，筆法樸拙沉鬱，結體寬正，墨色厚實。上聯右上方署「錦生仁弟屬」，左款「息翁」，下鈐印二方。此為弘一晚期楷書面目，脫盡華飾，平淡天真。紙本淡赭色，裝裱精整。對聯又稱楹聯，懸於廳堂柱間或書齋壁面，為明清以來文人居家陳設之一。上聯在右、下聯在左，以素宣書寫，字取大行書或楷書，求其端嚴醒目。內容多擇經典名句或自撰格言，書者與受書者之情誼、期許即寓其中。弘一此聯款署「錦生仁弟屬」「息翁」，即其為後輩所書之遺教聯，昔時當懸於書齋或臥室，朝夕相對，以當座右銘。 A paired couplet of two hanging scrolls, regular-script calligraphy on paper. Two columns of large characters form a seven-character couplet, the brushwork plain and weighty, the structure broad and even, the ink thick. The recipient is inscribed at the upper right, and the signature Xi Weng appears at the left with two seals. This shows Hong Yi's later regular script, stripped of ornament, plain and artless. Couplets (yinglian) have been hung on hall pillars or study walls since the Ming and Qing. The upper line is placed on the right and the lower on the left, in large regular or running script chosen to read clearly from a distance. This pair, inscribed for a younger brother named Jinsheng and signed Xi Weng, was a teaching couplet given by Hong Yi to a junior, once hung in a study or bedchamber as a daily admonition.
