英文品名：A PAIR OF REPUBLICAN-PERIOD FAMILLE-ROSE ROOSTER DISHES, SIGNED DENG XIAOYU 尺寸：D:23cm;H:3.5cm 粉彩敞口盤一對，圈足。盤心繪粉彩雄雞：公雞昂首挺立，羽毛五彩繽紛，旁襯花卉、山石，並題詩句鈐「鄧肖禹」朱文印。設色明麗，雞態生動。為民國景德鎮新粉彩名品。雄雞題材，取雞諧吉字，又雞有五德：文、武、勇、仁、信，《韓詩外傳》載雞「頭戴冠者文也，足搏距者武也，敵在前敢鬥者勇也，見食相呼者仁也，守夜不失時者信也」。故雞圖常用於祝職務高遷、功名得意。鄧肖禹，民國景德鎮畫師，工花鳥，與王步、潘宇等同為新粉彩名家。 A pair of famille-rose dishes painted at the centre with a rooster: the bird stands head high, feathers multi-coloured, amid flowers and rocks, with a poetic inscription and a red Deng Xiaoyu seal. The rooster puns on ji, auspicious, and is said in the Han Shi Waizhuan to possess five virtues: the comb on its head is civil, spurs are martial, fighting the foe is brave, calling others to food is humane, and keeping time at night is trustworthy. Hence rooster paintings wished for promotion and success. Deng Xiaoyu was a Republican Jingdezhen painter skilled in birds and flowers, ranked with Wang Bu and Pan Yu among the New fencai masters.
