A QING SILVER-FILIGREE MOUNTED GREENISH-WHITE JADE PLAQUE CARVED WITH LANDSCAPE AND FIGURES 尺寸:L:7.5cm;W:5cm 銀鑲白玉珮牌。 A silver-mounted jade plaque. The rectangular plaque is of pale greenish-white jade, one side carved in low relief with a landscape: bridge, pavilion and two elders sitting in talk, pines around. The edges have a meander border. It is mounted in a silver filigree frame surmounted by flowers set with two red gems, with a suspension ring. A Qing pendant. Jade plaques have hung at waist or lapel since the Ming-Qing, expressing the gentleman's virtue likened to jade. Their surfaces carry landscapes, figures or poetry in literati taste. Silver mounts reinforce the edge and set off gems. Here two elders in discourse suggest reclusive conversation by the pines, a common Qing plaque subject.
