The jade is warm and lustrous white, russet skin cleverly retained. It stands on a carved zitan stand. It is a Qing jade Magu. Magu is a legendary female immortal, the goddess of longevity. Tradition has it that in the Eastern Han she appeared at Xuancheng and predicted the land would become sea; hence she symbolizes long life and the vicissitudes of time. Magu offering peaches became a birthday subject, especially for women, grouped with Dongfang Stealing a Peach and the God of Longevity.
