清 青白玉帶皮圓雕螃蟹擺件連木座

英文品名：A GREENISH-WHITE JADE CRAB WITH RUSSET SKIN, ON A CARVED HARDWOOD STAND 尺寸：L:15cm;H:7cm (with stand) 青白玉帶皮圓雕螃蟹。蟹殼飽滿，雙鉗前舉，八足齊張，殼面刻長短齒紋。玉質白中泛青，局部帶褐皮。下配硬木雕荷葉水波紋座，為清代文房把件。蟹在傳統吉祥紋樣中寓意「一甲傳臚」。科舉殿試第一甲第一名為狀元，「甲」諧甲殼，故螃蟹又稱魁星、一甲。秋蟹肥美，又取蟹黃意富貴。明清玉雕、瓷塑常作螃蟹，或夾蘆葦（一甲），或夾錢，置於書齋，祝子弟科場得志。此件連荷葉座，取一甲及第之意。 A greenish-white jade crab with russet skin. The carapace is full, both claws raised and eight legs splayed; the shell is incised with short and long ridges. The stone is whitish with a greenish tint and russet patches. It rests on a hardwood stand carved as a lotus leaf with water waves. The crab is an auspicious motif: its shell (jia) puns on the first rank (yijia) in the imperial examinations, whence wishes for coming first in the palace examination. Autumn crabs are rich, and their orange roe also suggests wealth. Ming-Qing jade and ceramic crabs often clutch reeds or coins to reinforce the wish for success, and were placed in the study. Here the lotus-leaf stand reinforces the first-rank wish.
