英文品名:A QING GREEN JADE STANDING OX 尺寸:L:15cm;H:9cm 青玉圓雕。 A green jade standing ox carved in the round. The bull walks forward, body heavy, head lowered, horns curved, tail curled. Legs are upright and hooves splayed. The jade is a deep green with russet suffusion and a bright polish. A Qing animal carving. The ox was the foundation of farming and symbolises diligence and endurance; the Yijing associates it with the receptive earth that carries all things. Qing jade oxen, standing or recumbent, were studio ornaments meaning bull strength. Folk belief also saw the ox as a wealth animal, naming a rising market a bull market. The archaic modelling and deep green tone reflect the realistic animal carving of the Qing.
