英文品名：A QING MALACHITE CARVING OF A STANDING LADY 尺寸：H:16cm 孔雀石雕。仕女立像，髮髻高盤，髮間飾花朵，面容嫻靜，雙目微斂。右手前伸，捧盛花之皿，左手扶花枝。衣紋流暢，衣緣陰刻錦地。石質呈深綠與淺綠相間的同心條帶紋，為孔雀石天然特徵，拋光溫潤，為清代象生石雕擺件。孔雀石為鹼性碳酸銅礦，產於銅礦氧化帶，因色似孔雀尾羽圈眼而得名，其特徵為深淺綠相間的同心環帶。玉人取料時須順帶紋走向開料，否則易沿帶理裂開；雕琢以鋸、鑽、輪磨為主，因石質較軟，莫氏硬度三至四，不能受大力敲擊。清代宮造玉作與廣東作均尚孔雀石，取其色澤鮮麗作象生擺件，拋光後呈蠟狀光澤，惟久藏須防日曬脫色、受汗漬。 A malachite carving of a standing lady. Her hair is dressed in a high bun adorned with flowers, her face serene, eyes cast down. The right hand extends forward holding a tray of flowers and the left rests on a stem. The robes fall in smooth folds with incised brocade borders. The stone displays the natural concentric green banding characteristic of malachite, polished to a soft lustre. Malachite is a copper hydroxy-carbonate found in the oxidized zone of copper deposits, named for its resemblance to the eyes on peacock tail feathers. Its signature is the concentric green banding seen here. Stonecutters must cut with the banding, as the stone splits along these planes; at Mohs three to four it is soft and cannot take heavy percussion, so carving relies on sawing, drilling and wheel abrasion. Qing imperial workshops and Cantonese carvers favoured malachite for bright, colourful ornaments, polishing it to a waxy lustre. It is, however, prone to fading in strong light and to staining by skin oils, requiring careful long-term storage.
