英文品名：A RED AGATE RECUMBENT BEAST PAPERWEIGHT, QING DYNASTY 尺寸：L:9cm 此鎮紙為紅瑪瑙圓雕，臥獸匍匐，回首遠眺，四足收攏於腹下。獸身滿布紅、黃、褐諸色天然纏絲紋，色澤斑斕瑩潤，玻璃光強。造型古拙，刀法圓熟。為清代文房鎮紙。瑪瑙，為玉髓之一種，紋理層纏，色澤絢麗，有紅瑪瑙、綠瑪瑙、纏絲瑪瑙諸名。古人以瑪瑙為寶，飾劍、綬帶、器玩。鎮紙置於書案壓紙，多作臥獸、山子形。紅瑪瑙色豔，最宜手把件、鎮紙，可賞可玩。 This red agate paperweight is carved as a recumbent beast, head turning back, four legs tucked beneath the belly. The stone shows natural banded red, yellow and russet veins, lustrous and glassy. The form is archaic, the carving rounded. It is a Qing desk paperweight. Agate is a form of chalcedony with layered, colourful veins—red, green, or banded. The Chinese prized it for sword fittings, sashes and curios. Paperweights on the desk were usually recumbent beasts or mountain forms. Red agate, vivid and polishes well, was favoured for hand pieces and weights.
