A REPUBLIC SILVER-MOUNTED JADEITE BANGLE WITH A PAIR OF MYTHICAL BEASTS 尺寸:D:60mm (inner) 銀鑲翡翠手鐲。 A silver-mounted jadeite bangle of hinged, open type. The outer silver is chased with scrolling flowers and meander patterns. Across the upper front, a dark emerald-green jadeite plaque is carved as two recumbent mythical beasts facing each other. A safety chain hangs from the side. The silver has an aged patina. A Republic-period bangle. The mythical beast (pixiu) is said to devour riches without expelling them, believed to guard the household wealth. Pairing two on a bangle doubles the blessing. Chased silver with meander and flower motifs has been standard Chinese silversmithing since the Qing; the hinged opening eases fitting, and the safety chain prevents loss. This form was typical of ladies' wristwear of the period.
