清 竹刻楷書文章臂擱“雪齋”款

英文品名：A BARM REST CARVED WITH MINUTE REGULAR SCRIPT, SIGNED "XUEZHAI" 尺寸：L:31.5cm 竹製。臂擱作半筒形，兩端外撇，正面陰刻蠅頭楷書，密密麻麻，通篇為杜牧《阿房宮賦》，字口峻深，末鐫「雪齋」名款並綴印章。竹色金黃瑩潤，包漿溫厚。臂擱又稱臂閣，書寫時枕於臂下，免衣袖沾墨、穩定手腕。明清文人好於竹臂擱上刻詩文，一取文心，一顯刀工。此件刻《阿房宮賦》全篇，字小如蟻而筆筆不苟，既是文房用具，亦可作小楷臨本觀賞。 A bamboo wrist-rest of half-cylindrical form with upturned ends, its face incised all over with minute regular-script characters in dense rows: the long E-Pang Palace Rhapsody by Du Mu, ending in the signature Xuezhai and a seal. The bamboo is a warm golden tone with mellow patina. A wrist-rest supports the forearm while writing, keeping the sleeve off the ink and steadying the hand. Ming-Qing scholars liked to carve texts on bamboo rests, combining literary sentiment with knife work. This example carries the whole rhapsody in characters tiny yet precise, serving as both desk tool and a model of small regular script.
