清 黃楊木雕佛手隨形如意

英文品名：A QING BOXWOOD RUYI SCEPTER CARVED AS A FINGER CITRON 尺寸：L:32cm 黃楊木雕。如意作隨形木枝式，柄身虯曲皺節，滿雕癭瘤紋理，首尾鏤空通透。首端雕作佛手，指頭舒展蜷曲，如桔如蘭。木色淺黃瑩潤，包漿溫厚，為清代文房清供把玩之物。如意本為講經時記誦之杖，後衍為手持吉祥器。清代如意以靈芝、佛手、花卉為頭，每逢嘉節，臣下獻如意以頌如意吉祥。佛手又稱佛手柑，諧音福手，佛與福音近，民間以為可招福驅邪。黃楊木質細膩，色如鵝黃，最宜圓雕把玩，年久包漿愈見溫潤。 A boxwood ruyi scepter carved as a natural gnarled branch. The handle twists with knotted bark and pierced openwork; the head is modelled as a finger citron, its fingers curling naturally. The wood is a pale warm yellow with a mellow patina. A Qing desk and hand-play object. The ruyi began as a preaching scepter used to record sermons; by the Qing it had become an auspicious hand scepter with lingzhi, citron or flower heads. On festivals officials offered ruyi to wish as you wish. The finger citron (foshou) is a pun on Buddha hand and fortune hand, believed to attract blessings. Boxwood is fine-grained and pale yellow, ideal for round carving, its patina warming with years of handling.
