英文品名：A MING HUANGHUALI ROOT-BURL BRUSH POT 尺寸：D:17.5cm;H:18cm 黃花梨木雕。筆筒就木根隨形鏤成，口沿不規則，外壁滿佈癭瘤節癤，孔洞起伏，儼然老幹槎枒。木色紅褐瑩潤，鬼臉紋理隱現，包漿溫厚。不事修飾，取天然虬曲之趣，為明代文房清玩。樹瘤又稱癭木，為樹幹病結之處，紋理盤結詭譎，俗稱鬼臉。明代文人尚天然，木雕多取樹根、竹根隨形，不施鉛華，所謂因勢利導。黃花梨木心材紅褐，紋理如行雲流水，其癭部紋理更見變化。隨形筆筒口沿隨木起伏，既保留天然肌理，又鏤空取容以貯筆，是明代文人審美雖由人作、宛自天開的體現。 A huanghuali brush pot carved to follow the natural gnarled form of a root burl. The rim is irregular; the outer wall is covered with knotted burls and cavities, like an ancient tree trunk. The wood is a warm red-brown, with mottled figuring and a mellow patina. Unadorned, it is a Ming scholar's object. Tree burl is the knotted growth on a trunk, its grain tangled and prized as ghost-face figuring. Ming literati prized natural form; wood carvings followed roots and bamboo roots without varnished polish, following the potential of the wood. Huanghuali heartwood is red-brown with flowing grain, the burl even more varied. This brush pot keeps the natural contours of the burl while being hollowed to hold brushes, embodying the Ming ideal that though made by hand it seems born from nature.
